Ways to Utilize a UTV on Your Farm
Farm work changes daily and it’s important to have the right tools available to get the job done. UTVs are a great way to conquer your tasks more efficiently, giving you more time to check off your long to-do list! If you don’t already have a UTV or simply need some inspiration, our team at J5 Tractors has put together a list of our favorite on-farm uses for UTVs.
1. Move Supplies
Something always needs to get moved from one corner of the farm to another. UTVs can handle heavy loads of fertilizer, seed, feed, hay, and tools all year long. You can select a model that offers extended storage space and even dump beds!
2. Use One as a Small Tractor
Did you know you can hook a small implement up to your UTV? That’s right! If you’re in a pinch to get some fieldwork done, you can use your side-by-side to turn the soil and prepare a seedbed. Different plow and harrow attachments can work with your vehicle.
After preparing the soil, you can also use your UTV to plant the crop. You can use a spreader to distribute seeds! You can also use that same spreader to lay fertilizer, too.
3. Feed Your Animals
Livestock operations require a strict schedule 365 days a year. Having a UTV can expedite your feeding process by helping you haul buckets or small hay bales to the feeder. The all-terrain tires that are available for UTVs can especially help during the muddier times of the year and many models feature a fully enclosed cab to keep you dry and warm in inclement weather.
4. Drive More, Walk Less
Walking from place to place around your farm isn’t always ideal. You can use your UTV as a more efficient way to check fences, check the mail, and head back to the house for lunch!
5. Pick Up Debris
Sometimes land maintenance includes cleaning up debris, bedding, seasonal foliage, and leftover materials from projects. The bed of your UTV can act as the perfect holding space for cleanup days. You can pile it up and head immediately to the burn pile, barrel, or compost site!
6. Install Fencing
Your UTV is not only great for checking fence lines, but for establishing new fencing as well. You can use it as a guideline for straight lines and even spacing while using it to carry the heavy materials and tools you need. You can find models with rear-mounted rollers you can use to lay out your wire or with wenches that are perfect for pulling out old posts.
UTVs have so many awesome on-farm applications for operations of all sizes. Our team would love to help you find the perfect model for your unique needs. Visit us at one of our four Texas locations in Conroe, Navasota, Buna, or Normangee.
