If you’re looking for a way to take your hunting experience to the next level, then it might be time to pull out the UTV. Using a UTV to hunt can help you access difficult-to-reach areas and they make transporting your game a lot easier. Keep reading to find out how to use your UTV to get a better hunting experience.

Scout the Location Ahead of Time

If possible, take some time to check out your hunting spot ahead of time. This way, you can locate the best spot to find game before the actual trip and save time on scouting a spot for actual hunting. You’ll want to find a perch so you have the higher ground that’s also downwind so as not to give off your scent. The advantage of doing this with a UTV is that you can scout more locations in advance.

Bring the Right Gear

No hunting trip is complete without the right gear. A winch can help you get out of a rut if you get stuck and also help load game onto the side-by-side. Even if you prefer paper maps, we recommend bringing along a GPS in the event you get lost and need a way to get back to base camp. And add in any personal items you want to bring, like snacks, extra water, and more. Make a list of the gear you need so you can keep track of the things you need to bring.

Leave Enough Daylight

While you may be tempted to hunt for hours, the days are short in the late fall and sunset can come much earlier than you anticipate. Even if your UTV has lights on it, you don’t want to navigate a forested area after dark if you can avoid it, especially since the extra weight of your game may make for slower traveling.

Make sure that you stop hunting a few hours before sunset is due to hit your area so that you have enough time to get back to your truck or campsite safely. Also, don’t head out before dawn so that you aren’t fumbling in the darkness; wait for some sunlight to illuminate your path and provide you with enough visibility to avoid obstacles.
